about

From the forthcoming album "The Fire Went Wild"

I first heard Rufus Wainwright perform this song live in- I believe- 2003, before it was released on his album "Want Two". My then-shy self had coincidentally just found out I could sing entirely by accident, thanks to the mortifying voice class required by my college. Rufus mentioned onstage that he wrote this song from the perspective of a woman. When he finished the performance I was completely enamored, and despite my inability to even imagine singing in front of a crowd at the time, I thought "I'd like to cover that song someday- SING it from the perspective of a woman". Almost twenty years later, here we are.

Thank you a million times over to Jherek for immediately understanding how I wanted to execute this number. And thank you, Mr Wainwright, for writing such a brilliant song.
